there's a place 'tween
Little Rock and Dallas
a town name a Hope and they say
if you pull up your truck
in back of the bar
there's a girl there'll take you away

and the ladies of Hope
are a mercy, it's a pity
the mercy's not free
but I know for an hour
and a half a days pay
there's a girl there'll
be good to me

once in hope died
a friend of mine
he was killed
by a man in a rage
and the girl he was with
sent a note to his widow
but she could not
remember his name

and the ladies of Hope
are a mercy, it's a pity
the mercy's not free
but i know for an hour
and a half a days pay
there's a girl there'll
be good to me

sometimes I go to Hope
when I'm lonesome
and sometimes I go
when I'm mean
cause if I can't find love
on this dark stormy road
at least I can live in a dream

and the ladies of Hope
are a mercy, it's a pity
the mercy's not free
but i know for an hour
and a half a days pay
there's a girl there'll
be good to me
